RED BANK – The Count Basie Theatre has released a statement today about obtaining refunds for the show that the late Joan River was scheduled to perform on Aug. 29.
Rivers, 81, died Thursday after having suffered cardiac arrest on Aug. 28 while have a surgical procedure in a New York City clinic.
The theater has a message on its marquee that says “Can We Talk? Rest in Peace, Joan Rivers.”
The theater’s official statement, as well as updated information on show refunds, reads: “We would have been honored to host Joan Rivers last Friday, August 29th.
“Yesterday’s news of her passing brings to mind her decades’ worth of wry wit and razor-sharp humor. She was a pioneer for women in entertainment and a staunch advocate of suicide awareness and prevention, animal rights and support of our troops overseas. Simply put, she blazed trails that few stepped towards before her… and that’s what legacies are made of.
We extend our condolences to Ms. Rivers’ family, friends and fans.”
The message further instructs ticket holders that “refunds will be sent to you via check within the next 2-3 weeks. Please bear with us as this was a sold-out performance.”
