Charles David Cooke, 77, of Port Monmouth, passed away Nov. 29, 2023. Charles was born May 16, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Dorthea and Earl Cooke. Charlie was raised in Brooklyn where he met his wife, Arlene.
Charlie left to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After the war, Charlie returned to Brooklyn where he married Arlene and they raised their family.
Charlie worked at the 78th Precinct Police Department in Brooklyn for 27 years. In 2000, after retiring, Charlie and Arlene settled in Port Monmouth.
Charlie was the family cook. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always cooked for their gatherings. He looked forward to vacations at their home in the Poconos and visiting his “happy place,” Knoebles Amusement Park.
Charlie also enjoyed quiet time reading. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene Cooke, and their two sons, Scott Cooke and Charlie (Lisa) Cooke. He also leaves behind two brothers, James Cooke and Thomas Cooke, along with five grandchildren, Laken, Michael, Stephanie, Jennifer and Andrew.
Friends and relatives paid their respects Dec. 3 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. A service concluded the evening and a private cremation followed.
