Helen G. Lund, 101, passed away July 14, 2024, at home in Middletown, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Philadelphia to Charles “Lew” and Helen “Daisy” Getty. Helen was a beloved bride to her late husband, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Ralph G. Lund, a cherished mom to her children, and an adored nanny to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen enjoyed many hobbies in her lifetime. She was known for her “chocolate chippers” and meatloaf and her ability to knit a mean sweater. She loved taking care of those around her, spending time with the youngest members of the family and singing her favorite songs.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Jack and Bill Getty, and her “Fly Boy” and husband of 70 years, Ralph G. Lund.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie and husband Frank Freet of West Milford and Cheri and husband Tom Harris of Middletown, and her son Ralph G. Lund II and wife Donna of Sebastian, Florida. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kristin and husband Jon, Jonathan and wife Christin, Mia and husband Rob, Kelly and husband Jason, and Paige and husband Drew; her eight great-grandchildren, Kiera, Zoe, Danielle, Ryan, Collin, Carly, Chase and Landon; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering and service were held Aug. 6 at John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Cremation was private. Helen’s final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery, next to her loving husband, Ralph.
