Anne Elizabeth Langan, née Farrell, passed away in the care of her family Aug. 20, 2024, in Red Bank at the age of 100. Anne was born Dec. 20, 1923. She was a longtime resident of Bayonne and a pillar of the Bayonne Catholic community. She attended St. Vincent’s Grammar School and Holy Family Academy and belonged to St. Andrew’s Parish.

Anne married the late Vincent Paul Langan of Bayonne after his service in the Navy during World War II. They raised five children at the veteran’s housing complex on 1st Street before moving to 6th Street.

As the assistant city clerk for Bayonne, Anne was the highest-ranking female public servant in Bayonne of her time. In that capacity, she was a Bayonne fixture and built strong, lasting relationships with the city’s families and business owners. She worked alongside her late sister Mary Jane Romano at City Hall and retired in 1995 after 31 years of public service. Anne spent her last five years living with her daughter and her husband, Patricia and Scott Robertson, in Red Bank.

Anne was an avid reader of mystery novels and could be found watching old episodes of “Murder, She Wrote.” She enjoyed Entenmann’s coffee cake and could still beat anyone at Rummikub. In her later years, she spent her time with her many grandchildren, who affectionately called her Gran, Granny, Grandy, Gigi and Grandma. Her greatest joys came from sharing her love with others and she touched innumerable lives in her 100 years. Above all, Anne will be remembered for her selflessness, unparalleled kindness and her ability to love unconditionally.

Anne was predeceased by her husband Vincent, her sisters Mary Jane and Jean, and her daughter Anne Marie. She is survived by her children, Vincent, Patricia, Lawrence and Glenn, and their spouses, Ivy, Scott, Joyce and Susan. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was held Aug. 28 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 29 at St. James Church, Red Bank. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
