LINCROFT – A soccer field at Lincroft Acres was recently closed following an act of vandalism. According to the township, the park, located off Orchard Hill Drive, was “seriously damaged” by individuals who drove across the green, leaving behind deep tire tracks. “Although the vandalism was probably only done by a select few individuals, now hundreds of kids are affected,” said Tony Mercantante, the township administrator.

The field was the only lighted grass soccer field in that section of the township and, as a result of the damage, all soccer and football practices on the field are canceled until repairs are made.
Following the event, Mercantante said the township will now add security cameras to its athletic fields.

“We need our community’s help in holding each other accountable,” he added.

Those with information about the incident can report it confidentially to the Middletown Township Police Department by calling 732-615-2100.
“We encourage all residents to come together and speak up in situations like this,” Mercantante said.

The Middletown Recreation Department will reach out to soccer and football leagues regarding when practices can resume at the field.
