HOLMDEL – Navigating the entire stretch of Crawfords Corner Road is about to get smoother thanks to a significant state grant. At the Oct. 22 township committee meeting, Mayor Rocco Impreveduto announced that the township received $3.5 million from the New Jersey Department of Transportation Local Aid Infrastructure Grant fund. The amount will be used for the township’s Crawfords Corner Road Widening and Signal Improvement Project.

“This is a noteworthy development and something we are incredibly proud of,” said Impreveduto, noting that $3.5 million is a “significant amount of grant funding for a town the size of Holmdel.” Crawfords Corner

Road passes by preserved farms, landmarks such as Bell Works, the PNC Bank Arts Center, government buildings, a post office and schools – both Holmdel High School and William Satz Middle School are located along the busy road.

The roadway and sidewalk improvements along Crawfords Corner Road will help advance pedestrian and vehicular transportation throughout neighborhoods and will provide safe access to Holmdel High School, Satz Middle School, Holmdel’s municipal complex and emergency service stations.

The grant will be distributed over two years, with $2 million awarded in the first year and $1.5 million in the second. Impreveduto thanked state Sen. Declan O’Scanlon (R-13) who “really leaned in and helped us a ton” to secure the state funding, he said.

Planned improvements include widening Crawfords Corner Road between Longstreet Road and South Holland Road, reconstructing the intersection of Crawfords Corner Road and Longstreet Road to add dedicated turning lanes, and updating the traffic signal at the entrance to the Holmdel High School campus.

The township is hoping to “break ground on improvements in June of next year, which will enable us to get some work done before the following school year begins,” Impreveduto said.

The Crawfords Corner Road Widening and Signal Improvement Project is a continuation of the township’s efforts to provide safe and reliable transportation routes for both drivers and pedestrians.
