Robert “Bobby” Donovan, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and loyal friend, passed away peacefully March 19, 2025, at the age of 89. Born Sept. 22, 1935, in Bayonne to Anna Mae and Ernest Donovan, Bobby was the firstborn son of a loving family. He was raised in Bayonne, where he spent many years before eventually settling in Middletown, where he built a beautiful life with his own family.

In 1960, he married the love of his life, Maryann Donovan née Tierney with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion. Together, they raised two devoted sons, Robert (Jill) and Michael (Cheryl). His greatest joy was his family, and he took great pride in his grandchildren, Ryan (Bianca), Sydney (Niko) and Mitchell (Lily), as well as his precious great-grandchildren, Connor, Riley and Elias.

Bobby was a proud and dedicated employee of Procter & Gamble before his well-earned retirement after 35 years of service.

A proud parishioner of St. Mary Mother of God Church in Middletown, Bobby lived his life guided by faith and loyalty. He was always ready to help someone in need and fiercely loyal, always standing by those he loved.

A man of many talents, Bobby was the original Mr. Fix-It and could usually be found tinkering in his garage, repairing everything from lawnmowers to snow blowers to offering sound advice. His generosity knew no bounds – whether it was a helping hand, a warm bed, a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on, Bobby was always there.

He found great joy in family gatherings, where his warmth and humor made every occasion special.

An avid horse racing fan, Bobby loved his trips to Monmouth Park and Atlantic City with Maryann creating countless cherished memories together.

His kindness, wisdom and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving sister Kathy Markovich (Joe) and many adored nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was a brother to his late brother Richard Donovan (Laura), late sister Joan Howlett (George) and late sister Carol Mayo (Butch).
