Retired Air Force Capt. Robert A. Steers, age 88, of Little Silver, passed away May 17, 2025, of natural causes.
Robert attended The Citadel, where he was a cadet 1st lieutenant and executive officer of Charlie Company. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force and flew B-52s.
After leaving the service, Robert was a pilot for Pan American World Airways (Pan Am), which at the time flew the White House Press Charter, carrying journalists and other staff on presidential trips following Air Force One. During that time, Robert met President Gerald Ford.
After leaving Pan Am, he flew for six other airlines, including Spirit Airlines. When he aged out of being a pilot, he transitioned to being a pilot instructor.
After retiring from the airline industry, Robert pursued his second dream job, working part-time for different local hardware stores.
He also served for 11 years as a member of the Little Silver Borough Council.
The good times are remembered by his wife Gloria; his three children, Glenn, Scott and Donna; his two stepchildren, Gary and Gwynne; his 14 grandchildren; his one great-granddaughter; and his brother Bill. Robert had a large extended family and many friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug 2 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 25 Little Silver Point Road, Little Silver.
