The Atlantic Highlands Library’s Dead Beat Poet Society will present Poems by Maya Angelou at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the library, located at 100 First Ave.
To honor Maya Angelou, considered one of the greatest poets of her generation, the public is invited to read and explore selected works by Angelou.
The program is free and open to the public.
COLTS NECK
Cannon Sport & Social Club is looking for new teams and/or individual free agents, over the age of 21, to play in its Saturday afternoon coed flag football league in Colts Neck.
League play is set to begin Sept. 6. All ability levels are welcome and the emphasis is on having fun.

FAIR HAVEN
The Fair Haven Business Association (FHBA) is sponsoring a sidewalk sale on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22-23. Local shops and businesses will be displaying products in front of their stores, and there will be special sales and promotions.
The sidewalk sale is timed to coincide with the first day of the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair.
“It’s a fun time in Fair Haven with lots of people walking around town,” said Pam Boyd, owner of Boxwood Gardens Florist and Gifts at 807 River Road. “The town is lucky to have stores that you can walk to … and we hope everyone will make a point to visit the stores during the Fair Haven Sidewalk Sale.”

MIDDLETOWN
Poricy Park Conservancy will hold its 7th Annual Fun Scouting Skills Day Saturday, Sept. 13, at Poricy Park.
Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts are invited to explore Poricy Park and learn some Scouting skills while having fun. Exciting activities include Compass Frisbee, Tied Up In Knots, Tracks of the Trade, Bandage A Buddy, Fallen Log and more.
Staggered start times are 1 or 2:30 p.m. and will be assigned with paid registration. Participants should plan on allowing 90 minutes to complete activities.
The program is popular and registration closes at 120 Scouts, so it’s recommended to reserve early.
Paid registration received Friday, Aug. 29, is $10 per Scout and includes special badge. Paid registration sent between Sept.1 and 12 is $12 per Scout and also includes special badge. Advance reservations are required and will not be accepted on the day of the event.

The township is collecting video messages of birthday greetings from residents, past and present, as part of its 350th year celebration.
Personal messages wishing Middletown a happy 350th birthday will be played Sunday, Sept. 27, during Middletown Day 2014 along with one already received from famed “Clerk’s” creator, Kevin Smith. Birthday greetings can be recorded anywhere – at home, a special event, a favorite spot in Middletown.
Videos can be no longer than 15 seconds.
Organizers are asking that all messages be emailed to happybirthday@middletownnj.org.
The township reserves the right to determine which videos are played. Video messages must be family-friendly.
 
RED BANK
The borough fire department’s Navesink Hook & Ladder Company will hold its annual golf outing Thursday, Sept. 18, at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Colts Neck.
Registration and breakfast will be at 7 a.m.; shotgun start scramble format starts at 8 a.m.; golf will be played from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; then lunch will be served and awards and prizes will be given.
The fundraiser benefits the company-owned and operated volunteer Navesink Hook and Ladder Company of the Red Bank Fire Department.
Those who wish to play, either as individuals or a group, are asked to sign up by Monday, Sept. 1.
The cost is $125 for golfers and includes greens fees with 18 holes of golf with cart, continental breakfast, access to the beverage cart, a buffet lunch and silent memorabilia auction. The cost for just the lunch is $50. Companies interested in sponsoring the event have several levels and packages from which to choose, ranging from a chief sponsor at $1,500 to the engineer sponsor at $125.
