Alexander Osnato, 82, of Middletown, circled the bases for the last time before being reunited with his loving family in heaven. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Elsie Osnato; his loving son Alexander III; his brother James Osnato; sister Elaine Zonak; mother- and father-in-law Arthur and Linda Schwarz; and brother-in-law Walter Wurtenberg.

Alex worked as a supervisor for the Middletown Township Road Department. He retired in 2005.

He enjoyed volunteering as a softball coach at Red Bank Catholic High School, Mater Dei Prep and for the Monmouth County Park System. He helped with numerous programs and special events.

Alex loved Atlantic City, fishing and cheering for the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Ann Marie née Schwarz; his sister and brother-in-law Pat and Ron Dryburgh; and his five children and their spouses: Lisa and James Farver, David and Mary Osnato, Jennifer DiNatale, Danielle Osnato and fiancée Frank, and Ann Marie and Pete Renwick. Alex was a devoted Poppy to his 11 grandchildren: Katie, Matthew, Joseph, Brianna, David Jr., Michael, Charles, Andrew, Lucas, Bella and Lexi; and six great-grandchildren, Vivian Rose, Luke Jr., Harper, Brynn, Hailey and Emma.

He also leaves behind his beloved sisters-in-law, Tracy, Annette (Ron) and Diane (Ed) and brothers-in-law, Arthur (Jenn) and Richard (Tara); many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; and his dear friend Reka (Josh), who took extra special care of Alex during his time of need. His feline friends, Pikachu, Merlin and Buttons, will forever miss their dad.

Though Alex is no longer here, his legacy of love and the warmth of his embrace will live on in every cherished memory, family tradition and every act of kindness passed down through the next generation.

Visitation with a service was held July 25 at Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Alex’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at michaeljfox.org.
