Ann E. Robinson, 95, of Middletown, peacefully passed away April 7 at home surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born June 10, 1926 in East Ham, England, a daughter of the late Lily and Raymon Black. She came to America through Ellis Island during World War II in 1942 and lived in Hazlet. After marrying, Ann and her husband Alfred moved around the country as an Army family. They eventually settled in the New Monmouth section of Middletown in 1963.
Ann was a pharmacist assistant in England and then worked for Hazlet Pharmacy for many years. She was a member of the Belford United Methodist Church where she was in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School, belonged to the Mary Martha Circle and was a reader at church services. Ann was also a 60-year member of the VFW Post 2179 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an active member and called Bingo for many decades on Monday and Tuesday and was a server at many events, along with her husband. She also visited elderly people who could not get out and enjoyed keeping them company.
Ann was always on the move. She was an avid swimmer. She started swimming competitively as a girl in England and developed a love for swimming that lasted her entire life. She always had a pool in her yard, swam at Fort Monmouth and even joined a gym to swim year-round. She played racquetball well into her 70s and enjoyed gardening, crafting, knitting, crocheting and especially ceramics. Ann and her husband were considered snowbirds; they had a RV spot in Fort Myers where they spent their winters. Ann loved traveling. Being an Army wife, they moved around a lot. Once they settled in Middletown, she still found herself always on the go. She enjoyed bus trips to Atlantic City and Broadway and cruises to warm sunny places. Ann had a great sense of humor and had myriad jokes. She will fondly be remembered as the stern yet loving matriarch of the family.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Robinson, in 1994. She was also predeceased by their daughter Susan Cunion (2016), brother Raymon Black Jr. and sister Lily.
She is survived by her daughter Beverly Nicholson, and her dedicated granddaughter Tammy Ronan; two great-grandchildren, Dana (Brian) Roman and Brandon (Violet) Nelson; along with three great-great-grandchildren, Nattalie, Jolene and Devin.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 10 – 11 a.m. April 14, immediately followed by a funeral service at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. The entombment will take place at Princeton Memorial Park.
