Ann Nelson, 98, passed away peacefully at home June 22, Little Silver. Ann was born March 9, 1924, in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Port Washington, Long Island, New York. She graduated Greenbrier Academy, Pierce Springs, West Virginia in 1944. Shortly after on a blind date, Ann met her merchant marine husband-to-be Lloyd Nelson and married in 1945. They resided in the River Plaza area of Red Bank with their son John prior to moving in 1956 to the first of three Little Silver homes.  Â
Ann was a homemaker and loved to entertain. Her football tailgates, elegant dinner parties and large gatherings of 50 or more were executed with great ease and perfection. Her other at home pastimes included 1,000 piece jigsaws, reading, sewing, knitting, shopping, dancing and caring for her many cats.
Ann and Lloyd traveled extensively abroad to places such as Greece, Japan, England, Holland, and Bermuda as well as many U.S. locations including Alaska to visit family, vacationing at Indian Lake, New York with close friends and relatives and snowbirding to their winter home in Palm City, Florida.
Ann was a past member of the Monmouth County Junior League and Sustainers where she especially enjoyed performing in plays for school children. She was also a past member of Sandlass Beach Club, Shrewbury Sailing and Yacht Club, Seabright Beach Club, Martin Downs Country Club, and Deal Golf and Country Club where she and her friends were 9-holers, played bridge, and bowled off season.
Two of the most fun, yet unordinary things Ann did in her life were hot air ballooning and skydiving which she claimed she would do again in an instant. Her life stories, generosity, compassion, and love will truly be missed.
Ann was predeceased by her husband Lloyd C. Nelson; her parents William F. (Dorothy P.) Morgan; her brother Egbert S. (Anne) Montell; sister Elizabeth M. Miltenberger (Henry); and son John M. Nelson. She is survived by her grandson Damon J. Nelson, Granite Shoals, Texas; three great-grandsons Tyler, Schertz, Texas, Colin, Riley and their mother Jenilee Weaver Nelson, Lake Villa, Illinios; two nieces Catherine M. (Peter) Tamblyn and Virginia P. Miltenberger, Little Silver; great-nephew Andrew P. Tambyn (fiancée Kendall Axt) Sea Bright; and her friend and caregiver of 18 years, Julie Lutchko, Highlands.
Interment will be private. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Donations may be made in Ann’s memory to the Monmouth County SPCA.
