Anne Beekman Cornwell Smith died in April 2024. She was born in 1938, raised in Little Silver and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1957.

She attended Goucher College and graduated from Katharine Gibbs School in 1960.

While Anne told everyone her first job was catching crabs in the Shrewsbury River off Point Road in Little Silver and selling them to her neighbors, she first officially worked at the Beekman Orchard in Middletown. From there she was the assistant to the comptroller for the Garden State Parkway, retiring in 2003.

Her true passion in life revolved around her beloved Irish Setters. She entered them in a multitude of competitions for Breed, Hunting, Agility and Obedience. Her love for her dogs took them to shows including Westminster, Sacramento, New England, Arizona, and Oklahoma. Her home proudly displays her dedication to her setters with walls lined with their portraits, first-place ribbons and trophies.

Anne passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family, including her cherished Irish setters Carly and Colleen.

Anne is survived by her son Stephen William Smith and his wife Stephanie M. McCormick; her daughter Suzanne Smith Garrick and her husband Richard J. Garrick; her brothers, John W. Cornwell and George B. Cornwell; her grandchildren, Laura, Devin, Victoria, Julia, Jonathon, Jacob, Elizabeth, Charlie and Patrick; and many other loved family members and friends. Predeceasing her were her husband, Donald Arthur Smith, her parents, E. Allaire Cornwell and Mary Beekman Cornwell, and her sister, Mary Craig Cornwell Collins.

Anne’s service is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 17 at Tower Hill Presbyterian Church, 255 Harding Road in Red Bank. Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, has handled the arrangements.
