RED BANK – MaxPreps is a national high school sports website that spans the country honoring top high school sports teams. During its 13th annual football state champions tour, Red Bank Catholic’s 2018 state championship team made the elite list. MaxPreps paid a visit to the Eck Center April 17 to present the Caseys with a trophy. With over 16,000 high school teams on the field under the Friday night lights, coach Frank Edgerly’s team is one of 50 to earn the prestigious MaxPreps honor. The Caseys were one of two New Jersey teams on the national list. RBC went a perfect 11-0 in 2018, winning the Non-Public “B” state championship at MetLife Stadium in a 14-10 victory.

One of the top returning players from the Caseys state championship squad has committed to play Division I football in the ACC for the Boston College Eagles. Charlie Gordinier saw his offers skyrocket following an outstanding junior campaign that included 83 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and an interception. He also came on late in the season at tight end, making a number of key catches. He’s projected at tight end at the next level. Charlie’s older brother Jamie was a standout at RBC and went on to a productive career at the University of Miami.

Gordinier held 14 FBS offers, including LSU, UCLA, Michigan State, Syracuse and Maryland before choosing the Eagles. Gordinier will be reunited with teammate Steve Lubischer at BC, but first Charlie will be one of the top players in the Shore Conference looking to lead the Caseys to back-to-back state titles, along with Notre Dame commit Kevin Bauman.
