SHREWSBURY – As a part of outreach efforts to communities still recovering from Super Storm Sandy, the Digital Bookmobile National Tour will make a visit Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, 1001 Route 35.
The Digital Bookmobile (www.digitalbookmobile.com) will showcase the Monmouth County Library’s free eBook service Library on the Go! from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Readers of all ages are welcome to this free event, and are encouraged to bring their electronic devices with them for download instructions and assistance.
One of the member libraries, Sea Bright, remains closed after being devastated by Super Storm Sandy in October 2012. The building for another member library, Monmouth Beach, remains closed, but they are offering limited library services at the Monmouth Beach Municipal Center. The library’s Oceanport branch has been relocated after flooding damage from Sandy forced the closure of Oceanport Borough Hall, where the library was located.
“We are pleased to welcome the Digital Bookmobile to the Eastern Branch, where residents of many of the Sandy-affected communities can gather to learn more about the downloadable eBook services the Monmouth County Library has to offer – technology that allows to you to access books and information on your personal electronic device,” said Judi Tolchin, acting director of the Monmouth County Library System.
Those who visit the Digital Bookmobile in the library parking lot will learn how to access eBooks from Library on the Go! through hands-on, interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos.
A gadget gallery – featuring Kindle® HD, iPad® Mini,  Android™ Galaxy Tablet, NOOK™ HD+, Sony® Reader™, Kindle® Paperwhite, Windows® Phone 8, and more – will help readers discover the portable devices that are compatible with the library’s download service. Readers may also bring their own device.
The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. The 74-foot community outreach vehicle is a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities for decades. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players, all of which help visitors explore their library’s digital service.
Interactive learning stations give visitors an opportunity to search the Monmouth County Library’s digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks, audiobooks, music, and videos.
The Monmouth County Library’s Library on the Go! is available  24/7 when visiting the library’s website at www.monmouthcountylib.org  Those visiting the site should scroll down to find instructions on how to download titles for their electronic device.
Readers can browse the growing collection of bestselling, new release, and classic titles, and check out a digital title with a valid library card. Download free digital titles with just a library card and an Internet-connected computer, smartphone, or tablet.
