SANDY HOOK – Boy Scouts from around the tristate area gathered at the Sea Grant building at Sandy Hook to earn their environmental science merit badge May 5. Despite heavy rains and gusts of wind at Horseshoe Cove, the 28 candidates for the merit badge, led by volunteers from Sea Grant, took turns seining a tidal pool and conducting various studies of the nearby marsh. Though soaked by rain, the Scouts showed plenty of enthusiasm to learn how to become better stewards of the environment and help ensure delicate ecosystems survive for generations to come.
