George H. Blauvelt Jr.

92

George H. Blauvelt Jr., 82, of Red Bank, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away April 12, 2026.

Born in Brooklyn to George and Sophie Blauvelt, George was one of two children. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1963, serving in Japan during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, he began working at Charles, King and Company brokerage house on Wall Street, where he met his wife, Barbara. He also worked as an armored truck driver for Wells Fargo and as a letter carrier in Brooklyn for several years.

Affectionately known as “Lil’ Pop Pop” to family and friends, George had a generous spirit with anyone he interacted with, whether stranger or friend. He deeply enjoyed listening to music and watching golf and found great peace fishing and sitting on the dock or boat, especially at Riverview Towers Marina in Red Bank, where he was rumored to be known as “The Mayor.” George was also affectionately known for his innovative home-improvement skills, known as “Pop Pop’s inventions.”

A long-time communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Red Bank, George was also a third-degree Knight of Columbus in Brooklyn, Council #1073 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, as well as the Red Bank Elks, Lodge #233.

George was predeceased by his parents; his aunt, Christina Keenan; and his brothers-in-law, Bernie McIntyre and Joseph Walsh.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara née Walsh; his four beloved children, George Blauvelt Jr. and wife Ysabel, Deborah Komoroski and husband Cary, Robert Blauvelt, and JeanMarie Costello and husband Brian; along with his five cherished grandchildren, Kendyl and Kennedy MacLean, and Finnegan, Emersen and Cameron Costello.

George is also survived by his loving sister, Claire McIntyre; his caring cousins, Frank and William Keenan; his brothers-in-law, Rob (Cindy) Walsh, Steve Walsh and Dan (Heather) Walsh; and many nieces and nephews who were like his own children to him.

Family and friends visited April 17 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Funeral Mass was held April 18 at the Oratory Church of Saint Antony of Padua, Red Bank. A private burial will take place at a later date at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
