RED BANK – HABcore Inc. has announced two new members to its board of trustees. The Jersey Shore nonprofit that provides supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness has added Magda Muka and Michael Parent to its board, bringing the total number of trustees to 18.
Muka, of Red Bank, and Parent, of Middletown, were elevated from the organization’s advisory council during the board’s July meeting.
Steve Heisman, HABcore’s president and CEO, said the two bring professional expertise the organization needs as it works to serve a growing homeless population. “The expertise on our Board of Trustees helps ensure we remain focused” on long-term stability for the people HABcore serves, Heisman said in the Aug. 12 announcement.
According to information provided by HABcore about the new trustees, Muka is a partner at Muka Development Group, a Red Bank software company that serves the precast concrete industry nationwide. She previously spent more than a decade in marketing roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb. She also serves on the boards of the Two River Theater and the National Precast Concrete Association Foundation, and has volunteered with HABcore for years, including as co-chair of the group’s gala committee.
Parent, a longtime Monmouth County resident, spent more than 30 years in investment banking focused on mergers and acquisitions in the technology sector before selling his firm, Signal Hill Capital Group, to Japan’s Daiwa Securities in 2018. He holds board roles with the Count Basie Center for the Arts, Trinity Church and Trinity Center in Asbury Park, and the New Jersey Symphony’s
Monmouth County Council, among other local nonprofits. Founded in 1988, HABcore operates the Monmouth County Adult Homeless Shelter and Ocean County’s first emergency housing system, along with a network of affordable and supportive housing across both counties. The nonprofit recently unveiled three new affordable apartments on Wall Street in Red Bank.
