Herman Prilipp of Red Bank passed away April 20, 2022. He was born in Seymour, Connecticut, to Adeline and Albert Prilipp, along with his brothers, Richard, Albert and Frederick, all of whom predeceased him.
Herman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in the Military Police. He was very proud of his service and was a Purple Heart veteran.
After returning from the service and while living in Connecticut, Herman was employed as a loan officer and vice president for Citizen’s National Bank. Sometime thereafter, he moved to the Berkshires in Massachusetts and opened a restaurant and motel which were very successful. Thereafter his business ventures took him to Roanoke, Virginia where he opened a delicatessen.
He worked at many different jobs, the last finding jobs for hundreds of people through the Goodwill in Roanoke. He worked until he was 87 years old.
He made friends everywhere he went and had many. He made the best of any situation and always looked for the positive in life. He was blessed with the ability to talk to anybody and had a great sense of humor. Herman was an extremely generous man and was always helping others less fortunate them himself.
Herman was predeceased by his loving wife Mary McDowall. He is survived by his children, Darlene and her husband David Goldberg, Keith Prilipp and his wife Renee and John Prilipp and his wife Ping; his granddaughter Jamie and her husband Steven Grant; his much-loved great-grandson Nolan A. Grant; and many nieces and nephews.
His favorite quote was, “I never met a stranger, only friends.” Always up for having a good time, he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Services will be private under the direction of Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
