John Kuhar Jr., 79, passed away May 20, 2022.
He was born April 17, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to Maria Pia (Brun) Kuhar and John Kuhar Sr. He was raised in Brooklyn and went on to earn his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He worked as an electrical engineer for Grumman Aircraft prior to marrying and relocating to Matawan in 1967. He eventually settled in Middletown where he spent his career working for Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies and Avaya, moving into software engineering until retirement.
John loved boating, swimming at the Red Bank YMCA for many years, coaching his three children’s sports teams, volunteering for Boy Scouts, bicycling, gardening, beach trips and family get-togethers. He was a lifelong reader on many topics. He was known for his smile, Christmas seafood antipasto, generous and selfless ways, his good advice and always putting his family first. He was especially fond of his three granddaughters who brought him tremendous joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Kuhar in 2011 and sister Alba Milcetic in 2020.
John is survived by his beloved children, Kim Pekol and husband John of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and son Michael Kuhar of Middletown; and granddaughters, Jessica and Mackenzie Kuhar of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and Norah Pekol of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and his former wife, Fran (Ragusi) Kuhar of Warrington, Pennsylvania.
Visitation was held May 25 at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, Middletown, with a service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
