RED BANK – Eight months after longtime Two River Times reporter John Burton died from cancer, family, friends and former colleagues gathered at the Dublin House to honor him and raise money for Parker Family Health Center. Prior to becoming a journalist, Burton worked at the bar and eatery – a fixture in Red Bank for decades – as a bouncer.
Joining current Two River Times employees were previous editors, publishers, sales people and reporters, along with Burton’s brother Tom and his family of Middletown, lifelong friends, local dignitaries, Parker Family Health Center members and many others who appreciated and respected him.
Attendees shared stories about Burton’s fair and unbiased journalism and his escapades as a young man. Many noted his genteel demeanor, his fashion sense and his penchant for books and movie trivia.
