Monmouth Museum Asks ‘Please Touch’

LINCROFT – At a unique sculpture exhibition at Monmouth Museum, security guards will not be watching over visitors to scold them for getting too close to the works of art. As a unique opportunity to “break the rules” by touching and feeling the art in a museum, Please Touch! Sculpture Exhibition is a main gallery exhibition will feature wall and free-standing sculpture that can be gently touched and felt by visitors. Please Touch! is intended to help visually impaired people overcome the barrier they experience at most art museums, by changing the medium in which people perceive art from sight to touch. Sighted people will also be able to experience art without relying on their eyesight and encounter art in a completely different form than they are used to the sculptures are all textured and made from various materials that will stimulate a visitor’s touching senses along with the visual artistic experience. The opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28 and the exhibition will run until Sept. 6. Admission is $8 per per- son.
