Reader Endorses Stephanie Schmid

This letter is in response to claims that Stephanie Schmid opposed participating in a debate with two other candidates who are also seeking to win the Democratic Party’s CD4 congressional primary.

These accusations could not be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, since around December 2019, Stephanie has participated in seven debates/forums with the other two candidates mentioned in the letter (plus some other candidates who have since dropped out of the race).  I was at a few of these events and the ones I went to were well attended.  By participating in these seven sessions, Stephanie has offered the public a chance to get to know her and continues to do so through numerous virtual events.

I am greatly impressed by Ms. Schmid’s qualifications. Graduating from Yale, Stephanie is a retired United States Foreign Service Officer, who spent seven years working in embassies around the world. In this capacity, Stephanie was instrumental in strengthening democratic institutions and electoral systems in Haiti; assisting US citizens in Brazil; as well; as protecting and promoting human rights when she was based in Washington, DC.

Stephanie spent six years as a Federal Litigation attorney as well as in private practice. Leaving the State Department in 2018, she took on a leadership role in the U.S. Foreign Policy  Program at the Center  for Reproductive Rights where she developed legislation and took legal action to protect fundamental Human Rights.

I would encourage fellow Democrats to cast their vote for Stephanie Schmid this July 7th   or before.

Sincerely
Margaret S. Beekman
