RUMSON – Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s Fed Challenge team took home the Group Champion title March 11 during the High School Fed Challenge hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The annual competition brings real-world economics into the classroom, with teams playing the role of monetary policymakers, analyzing economic conditions and recommending a course of action. Roughly 70 high schools from the tristate area participate each year.

After delivering a 12-minute presentation on the economy, followed by a 13-minute question-and-answer session with New York Fed economists and staff who serve as judges, the team earned the highest score in its bracket – usually a preliminary round, however the final this year due to national health concerns – and was named Group Champion.

Advised by Stephanie Pennetti, this year’s RFH club had over 20 members who met with economists in the local area and the Rutgers Fed Challenge Team to help prepare for the competition. The competition team was composed of Alyssa Munley, Meghan Carolan, Pascal Johnstone, Thomas Crow, Peter O’Connor and William Francis, all juniors and seniors in advanced economics courses.
