FAIR HAVEN – Each December, as the month deepens into Christmas, families around the world engage in an age-old ritual, unwrapping the elements of their manger scenes: a rustic stable that will house the figurines stored away each year with the Christmas ornaments, awaiting their own journey to Bethlehem.

It’s go time. The hectic holidays are upon us and, if you’re hosting, you may be starting to feel the stress. That’s particularly true if you’ll be cooking for more people than usual. While it’s certainly a challenge to create a memorable meal for the masses, it can be manageable if you have a well-defined plan.

Holiday Express, the beloved local nonprofit that brings music and joy to groups throughout the Two River area and beyond, is known for its talented musicians, dedicated volunteers and generous supporters.

LITTLE SILVER – Is there a Clark Griswold in Little Silver? Someone who goes all out on the lighting and decorations for the holidays? Dec. 5 will be the time to find out, as the Little Silver PTO presents its annual Lights of Little Silver fundraising event.

Laid-back summer days are over and the recent months of political grind culminated in an outcome that pleased some and saddened and angered others. So what’s next? Whether you’re eager for it or ambivalent about it, the holidays are here.

Your Christmas lights have been up for a month, twinkling away, welcoming visitors and those just driving by. Your Christmas tree is most likely standing tall, decorated with all the ornaments and baubles you’ve collected through the years. There are definitely at least a few seasonal tchotchkes around the house – some nutcrackers, a wreath, strings of garland. Your Christmas decorating is finished and you can enjoy the rest of the season.

There may only be one Santa Claus working hard at the North Pole and delivering packages Christmas Eve, but he gets help from a wide range of stand-ins who bring joy to children all season long. In the Two River area, two “real beard” Santas make the most of their time as the head elf, seemingly getting as much happiness as they give each year.

’Tis the season for celebrating. Between Thanksgiving and the arrival of the New Year, there are ample opportunities for socializing.

When the last of the Holiday Express events were over Christmas Eve, when Santa hung up his suit for the last time for 2022, and all the musicians and volunteers finally went home for a long winter’s nap, it seems the holiday season was made a little brighter for many.
