The Holmdel Board of Education voted during its Sept. 27 meeting to abolish its transgender student policy, state Department of Education guidance Policy 5756. A second confirmation vote, slated for its next regular meeting in October, will officially repeal the policy if it passes. Until then, Policy 5756 remains in effect.

Following the adoption of transgender student policy revisions last week by three county school boards, state Attorney General Matthew Platkin quickly filed lawsuits to halt the changes. Area Republican legislators were seemingly just as quick to fire back.

The Colts Neck Board of Education is considering revising its transgender student policy. If approved, school staff must inform parents of a child’s wish to be addressed by a different name, pronoun or gender identity.

The developer of Colts Neck Manor is persistent but so are those opposing the project.

Lillian G. Burry, 87, of Colts Neck, will not run for a seventh term on the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners and will depart elected office when her current term ends in December.
