PISCATAWAY – A state championship win is the perfect ending to a special season. Red Bank Catholic’s girls basketball team wrote that script and added two other milestones to make a memorable season legendary.

With the Shore Conference basketball tournament wrapping up on Friday at Monmouth University, the focus will quickly shift to the winter state playoffs. The brackets are out in boys basketball, girls basketball and hockey. Best of luck to all our local teams as they chase a state championship.

RED BANK – Addy Nyemchek has been highly regarded throughout her high school career at Red Bank Catholic within the borders of New Jersey. Now, she’s getting her flowers as one of the best players in the country.

HOLMDEL – In a clash between New Jersey’s top-ranked girls basketball programs, No. 1 Red Bank Catholic proved why it sits atop the state rankings, riding a stellar second-half performance to a 62-51 road victory over No. 2 St. John Vianney Tuesday night.

The Shore Conference’s reputation as one of the best girls’ basketball leagues in the country is alive and well. Red Bank Catholic captured the crown with a thrilling come-from-behind win over Saint Rose. The RBC/Saint Rose rivalry was one of the highlights of the 2024-25 season. This year’s All-Area team has tremendous depth.

Zoe Brooks had big moments at Saint John Vianney, from her buzzer beater to beat Hannah Hidalgo and Paul VI to knocking off Long Island Lutheran, the No. 1 team in the country and causing a court storm in Holmdel.

With strength, talent, resilience and hope, the Shrewsbury Borough School (SBS) girls’ basketball team redeemed a seemingly lost season and emerged triumphant.

After four straight Shore Conference championships dating back to the COVID-shortened season, this year’s SJV team is primarily made up of underclassmen but a key senior leader and tenacious defense resulted in a fifth straight Shore Conference title.

Janie Bachmann had to look at the scoreboard twice during her post-game interview to make sure it wasn’t a dream.

Like it did against every opponent this year – with the exception of the No. 1 team in the country – Saint John Vianney made it look easy as it dismantled Rutgers Prep 72-52 in the Tournament of Champions final last Sunday at Rutgers University.
