Christian Brothers Academy had an uncharacteristic 14-11 season, yet still finished ranked sixth in the final state hockey poll. The Colts should bounce back with a lot of young talent returning.

LAKEWOOD – Six wrestlers from The Two River Times area claimed Shore Conference Tournament championships Saturday, Jan. 24, at Lakewood High School, highlighted by repeat winners and three first-time champions.

MIDDLETOWN – It seemed like the entirety of Middletown gathered for the pageantry and tradition of North against South Thanksgiving Day, and this time, history was rewritten.

It used to be section finals were the end of the road for public high school football teams. But in year four of true state championships, trophies are handed out for section titles before teams need two more wins for the coveted state title trophy.

The non-public brackets are out and it’s time to begin the road to MetLife Stadium. Red Bank Catholic and St. John Vianney both earned home games for the opening round.

MIDDLETOWN – If there were a game that summarized the 2024 Middletown North softball season, the May 4 shutout of the Toms River North Mariners would be it.

The Middletown North Lions used a 6-goal second period to dominate their crosstown rival and retain the Mayor’s Cup for a third straight year. Five North players scored in the 9-2 victory over Middletown South.

Crosstown rivals Middletown North and Middletown South, separated by a mere 5 miles, met on the ice for the third time this season Feb. 27 to decide which team would be moving on to the state semifinals.
