MIDDLETOWN – According to township and parish officials, Middletown will purchase the former Mater Dei High School property and surrounding fields, currently owned by St. Mary’s Catholic Church, preserving the site for open space.

Atlantic Highlands is looking to honor its first woman mayor by naming a borough park after her. Helen Marchetti became mayor in 1984 and served until 1988. She died Sept. 19, 2023, at the age of 98, after living in Atlantic Highlands her entire life.

Kickstarting Earth Day celebrations, the township held a special ceremony to officially designate the Crawford Hill property of the legendary Holmdel Horn Antenna as the future site of Dr. Robert Wilson Park.

At its Feb. 13 meeting, the township committee adopted an ordinance authorizing the establishment of Dr. Robert Wilson Park at Crawford Hill, ending a months-long battle over proposed development of the site, which contains the historic Horn antenna.

The legendary Holmdel Horn is now owned by the township and will soon be a 35-acre public park, bringing to an end the months-long battle over development of the site and the future of the historic antenna. The park will be named for the township’s longtime resident and Nobel-winning physicist Dr. Robert Wilson.

The council chambers were packed with residents concerned over the borough’s plan to purchase a derelict lot abutting the municipal dock to create a small waterfront park.

Deep Cut Gardens is about to get a facelift. Monmouth County Park System has approved design plans and initiated construction of a new gazebo and other improvements, including renovations to the historic gardener’s cottage.

The first phase of the Swimming River Park project was recently completed, marked by a ribbon-cutting event held May 1.
