PISCATAWAY – A state championship win is the perfect ending to a special season. Red Bank Catholic’s girls basketball team wrote that script and added two other milestones to make a memorable season legendary.

PISCATAWAY – Fans don’t fill out brackets for New Jersey high school basketball like they do for NCAA’s March Madness, but if they did, no one would have had Colts Neck going the distance in Group 3 as a fourth seed.

PISCATAWAY – Last year, Rumson-Fair Haven made history winning its first state wrestling championship. The Bulldogs didn’t have to wait long for the second.

PISCATAWAY – It wasn’t going to be easy. Rumson-Fair Haven experienced heartbreak at SHI Stadium on the campus of Rutgers University in the Group 2 state championship game before. But in 2024, the Bulldogs flipped the script and captured the school’s first outright state title, one that had eluded them the past two years.

Rumson-Fair Haven was counted out when it started the season 0-2. And the Bulldogs were all but eliminated from the playoffs when they trailed on the road by 17 in the section finals against Raritan. So when RFH fell behind 18-7 to Caldwell in the Group 2 state championship, the Rumson faithful knew this team was capable of one more amazing comeback – and they nearly saw it.

The Bulldogs head coach continues to mold RFH as an elite state power and back-to-back losses to nationally ranked teams will only help a talented team learn how to handle all comers when the post-season rolls around.

Like it did against every opponent this year – with the exception of the No. 1 team in the country – Saint John Vianney made it look easy as it dismantled Rutgers Prep 72-52 in the Tournament of Champions final last Sunday at Rutgers University.
