RED BANK – Whether a major redevelopment or a minor subdivision, borough residents have been consistently voicing opposition to what they see as overdevelopment. At a recent meeting, the borough’s planning board approved a rehabilitation designation for two properties, but tabled a subdivision request at 106 Leighton Ave. after neighbors raised concerns about growth, density and neighborhood character.

HOLMDEL – The planning board unanimously approved a plan Tuesday, Sept. 2, for a synagogue and rabbi’s residence at 816 Holmdel Road, following months of debate and push- back from area residents concerned about traffic and neighborhood impact.

MIDDLETOWN – Residents in the Campbell’s Junction section of the township are hoping to preserve the historic character of their neighborhood while also upgrading it, after the planning board voted unanimously Wednesday to accept a report citing many of its properties as eligible for a redevelopment designation.

EATONTOWN – Last week’s unanimous approval by the Eatontown Planning Board means Netflix can proceed with the largest portion of its planned production studio on Fort Monmouth.

TINTON FALLS – A new Wawa convenience store and gas station is set to join a major commercial development near Garden State Parkway southbound exit 105. The store, recently approved by the borough’s planning board, will be part of the Wayside Road project – a campus-style development by Stavola Realty Company that includes multiple commercial buildings now under construction.

MIDDLETOWN – The township planning board denied Fair View Cemetery’s proposal to build a crematorium last week, ending a series of hearings that drew packed meeting rooms and prompted an outpouring of residents’ concerns.

FORT MONMOUTH – The Eatontown Planning Board voted unanimously Monday to approve a “sliver” of Phase 1A of Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth within its borders, clearing the path for the entertainment giant to proceed with presenting Phase 1B.

HOLMDEL – A revised construction proposal from Chabad Jewish Center of BCC Inc. came before the planning board earlier this month.

RED BANK – The borough’s planning board voted to approve a scaled-down version of the mixed-use train station redevelopment plan at its June 11 meeting, once again coming face-to- face with both hope and hesitation from the public about affordable housing, traffic and community character.

FAIR HAVEN – Sandy Hook Seafood, a soon-to-be seafood market with an emphasis on locally sourced products, will join the borough’s roster of small businesses after recently receiving planning board approval.
