COLTS NECK – While the township is gearing up to meet its state-mandated affordable housing obligations, the school board is expressing “deep disappointment” about how these mandates will impact the district over the next 10 years. But the township mayor assured school board members at their recent meeting that the housing mandates will be manageable, and that the township has been preparing for the changes for the past year.

MIDDLETOWN – Concerned residents gathered at town hall Feb. 5 as the planning board began hearing Fair View Cemetery’s latest application to construct a crematorium. The next hearing will occur April 3.

EATONTOWN – By unanimous vote Monday night, the Eatontown Planning Board joined Oceanport in approving the first phase of Netflix’s planned production studio complex on 292 acres of Fort Monmouth.

RUMSON – A plan to construct 12 affordable housing rental units for seniors moved forward this month after nonprofit affordable housing developers Bergen County’s United Way (BCUW) and Madeline Housing Partners (MHP) received site plan approval from the Rumson Planning Board.

OCEANPORT—Lighting, signage, traffic and operating hours emerged as concerns during Netflix’s almost four-hour presentation of its planned new production studios on Fort Monmouth.

To paraphrase the Roman philosopher Seneca, “Luck is where opportunity meets preparation,” a maxim on display at the most recent Atlantic Highlands Planning Board meeting Aug. 1. During the last 30 minutes of the meeting, representatives from Carton Brewing presented an informal proposal suggesting a partial repurposing of the company’s brewery building at 120 First Ave.

At a special meeting July 30 the township planning board voted unanimously to recommend to the township committee, that the site of the former Vonage property at 23 Main St. be declared a “non-condemnation area in need of redevelopment,” setting the stage for potential redevelopment.

In a significant development intended to promote transit-oriented growth, the Red Bank Planning Board greenlit a proposal to construct a four-story, 20-unit residential building near the train station.

A development proposed for vacant farmland across from the former Vonage corporate office complex on County Route 520 is on the township’s planning board agenda after a two-year pause, but the application is facing more scrutiny now as it navigates Holmdel’s complicated zoning regulations.

MIDDLETOWN – A nearly 200-year-old cemetery in the township recently received approvals to construct a new graveyard, which has some Oak Hill area residents concerned.
