RED BANK – The Monmouth Boat Club has secured a $750,000 state grant to replace its century-old foundation, preserving a historic waterfront landmark that has stood since 1879.

HOLMDEL – It’s not quite happening at light speed, but preservation of Holmdel’s historic Horn Antenna is steadily gaining momentum, taking shape as Robert Wilson Park with help from a new state preservation grant.

MIDDLETOWN – Scudder Preserve, a 90-acre woodland in the township’s Navesink section, is set to become a conservation refuge and public gathering space with the support of a $500,000 grant from New Jersey Resources Corporation (NJRC).

MIDDLETOWN – Residents in the Campbell’s Junction section of the township are hoping to preserve the historic character of their neighborhood while also upgrading it, after the planning board voted unanimously Wednesday to accept a report citing many of its properties as eligible for a redevelopment designation.

HOLMDEL – Discussions over a proposed tree removal and replanting ordinance dominated the latest township committee meeting, eclipsing the appreciation officials received for open space preservation.

SHREWSBURY – In a victory for residents advocating for the preservation of a residential property at 942 Broad St., next to Manson Park, the borough council unanimously voted to purchase the site for open space.

MIDDLETOWN – According to township and parish officials, Middletown will purchase the former Mater Dei High School property and surrounding fields, currently owned by St. Mary’s Catholic Church, preserving the site for open space.

MIDDLETOWN – The township committee has introduced an ordinance aimed at acquiring 17 acres of property along the Navesink River, adjacent to River Plaza Elementary School.

HOLMDEL – Riding the recent success establishing the 35-acre Dr. Robert Wilson Park to preserve the legendary Holmdel Horn on Crawford Hill, the township committee has dived into another, much larger parcel that could hold just as much promise – and pride – for both residents and officials this election year.

MIDDLETOWN – The Dempsey Pump House has stood abandoned on the corner of Center and Thompson avenues in the Leonardo section of the township for decades. The 5-acre forested plot became overgrown, and the nearly century-old house became a tangle of weeds and vines, a specter of its former self.
