FAIR HAVEN – The Harding Bird Sanctuary in the borough is feathering its nest. Fair Haven Garden Club president Nancy Bosco outlined recent work at the woodland preserve on Harding Road and noted the collaborative efforts of the garden club and the borough’s Department of Public Works (DPW) in restoring the habitat.

FORT HANCOCK – The future of historic buildings on the Sandy Hook peninsula remains stable yet critical.

Adding to a recent spate of initiatives to protect open space and preserve historic sites, the township committee unanimously passed a resolution at its May 6 meeting authorizing the restoration of the Murray Farmhouse at Poricy Park. The committee also introduced a bond ordinance for $1 million to facilitate the acquisition of the Tretter property.

Deep Cut Gardens is about to get a facelift. Monmouth County Park System has approved design plans and initiated construction of a new gazebo and other improvements, including renovations to the historic gardener’s cottage.

Development is changing the profile of communities, making preservation of local historical structures ever more important, according to members of the Holmdel Historical Society.
