RUMSON – It’s not every day the Rumson Fire Company gets the chance to smash down doors, kick through walls and breach windows – thankfully.

In the run-up to the general election Nov. 7, The Two River Times reached out to candidates in our coverage area to get their perspective on effective governance and the impact voting can have on a community.

Monmouth County is known for its green space and two towns are about to get greener: A 62.5-acre forested parcel will be preserved and turned into the newest county park in Holmdel while Rumson has received a grant to renovate Meadow Ridge Park.

While the borough is making strides toward meeting its affordable housing obligations by the 2025 deadline, residents at the latest council meeting were upset about some aspects of the process.

Instead of a freezing day in February diving into the Atlantic Ocean for the annual Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge, it was a warm September evening when the community recognized Police Chief Scott Paterson for taking the “plunge” into retirement.

Rumson Borough Council has been steadily working to meet the borough’s affordable housing obligations pursuant to a 2021 settlement agreement with the Fair Share Housing Center (FSHC).

Rumson native Dylan Runne completed his first season at the helm of the U-1 Miss HomeStreet boat, a high-speed hydroplane that races in the H1 Unlimited boat racing series.

Shore traffic is a regular and frustrating feature of the Two River area during the summer months. As residents and tourists flock to Monmouth County’s beaches, roadways can become congested, causing backups, delays and annoyances for drivers.

Operation Safe Neighborhoods is a “go” in Hazlet, offering residents a way to bolster home security. Similar programs already exist in Rumson and Fair Haven.

The history and charm of old houses is undeniable but so is the commitment it takes to preserve them. And whether tucked far down hidden driveways or standing amid urban sprawl, the history of Monmouth County is evident in centuries-old houses, barns and farmsteads.
