MIDDLETOWN - A once-vacant lot in Campbell's Junction has been transformed into a beacon of gratitude. On Nov. 2, township officials, veterans and residents gathered at 37-45 Leonardville Road for the ribbon cutting of Middletown’s new Veterans Village, a 22,000-square-foot complex that will provide 12 residential units for local veterans.

A plan to provide 12 affordable residential units for veterans crept closer to fruition after Mayor Tony Perry and the township committee announced how they were addressing the project’s final hurdles.

OCEANPORT – Bringing the past into the present to honor local military heroes, Oceanport Borough Administrator Donna Phelps, with help from volunteers, salvaged over 250 photographs of local veterans and restored them to create a new display for all to experience.

Laughter – and a few tears – permeated the proceedings May 18 when the women’s wing of the Gordon H. Mansfield veteran’s complex on Essex Road was dedicated for Monmouth County Commissioner Lillian G. Burry, who launched and spearheaded the 10-year effort to make the facility a reality.

A jubilant crowd of residents, staff and supporters gathered Nov. 10 to mark the one-year anniversary of the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community on Essex Road.

When the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community on Essex Road opened last November, the CEO of its parent organization pledged to forge mutually beneficial relationships between residents and the community. Eight months later, those partnerships are thriving. 

TINTON FALLS – Later this month, 54 military veterans will begin moving into new homes, where the most vital amenities are myriad support systems. About 100 more are on the waiting list.

Seventy former military personnel who currently do not have a home will be housed at the building.

Many gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony welcoming the new Veterans Memorial and park.
