The USNS Comfort passed by the northeast tip of Sandy Hook March 30, on the way to dock in New York City, passing the Romer Shoal Lighthouse under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The huge hospital ship will largely be used for noncoronavirus patients, freeing space in the city’s overtaxed hospitals during the pandemic. Capt. Joseph O’Brien, the squadron commander of the medical team aboard the hospital ship, is a graduate of Red Bank Catholic, Class of 1989.
