Virginia Woodruff MacConnell, age 93, died Dec. 19, 2020 in Red Bank.
Mrs. MacConnell lived in Shadow Lake Village, Middletown, after having been a resident of Fair Haven for over 50 years. Mrs. MacConnell had been a licensed insurance broker and worked with her husband Douglas F. MacConnell, who owned MacConnell Insurance Agency in Fair Haven for many years. She was a member of St. George’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson, former member of the Sea Bright Beach Club and the English-Speaking Union. She was a former member of the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Fair Haven, and the Junior League of Monmouth County.
Mrs. MacConnell was predeceased by her husband Douglas in 1986, her brother Franklin Woodruff in 2015, her sister Jane Kearns in 2017, her stepsister Angela Hill in 2018, and her grandson Nathaniel Chauncey MacConnell in 2002.
She is survived by her two children, son Douglas MacConnell of Rogers, Arkansas, and his wife Rebecca from Belgrade, Serbia, and daughter Laird M. Bohn and her husband Christopher Bohn of Lakewood, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her half-sister Sarah S. Ogden, Peru, Vermont and her stepbrother Norman Seiler, Melbourne, Florida.
Mrs. MacConnell was very proud of her antecedents. On her father’s side of the family, she was descended from Charles Chauncey, the second president of Harvard College, his grandson, Nathaniel Chauncey, the first graduate of Yale College, and Samuel Whittelsey, the second graduate of Yale College. On her mother’s side, Mrs. MacConnell was descended from Daniel Leeds, who was appointed by Queen Anne in 1705 to be judge of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Mrs. MacConnell also loved to travel. She and her husband once crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth II and returned on the Concorde. She traveled to Egypt, Greece and Turkey, as well as most of the countries of Europe.
There will be no visitation or services at the request of Mrs. MacConnell. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank has been entrusted with the arrangements.Â
