William John Scarangello, 86, of Belford, left this world suddenly Jan. 14, 2022. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone who knew him.

William was born June 21, 1935, to Vito and Nettie Scarangello in the Tottenville neighborhood of Staten Island.

He was predeceased by the love of his life Eleanor, son Robert and bothers Frank and Antony.

William is survived by his best friend and brother Greg Scarangello; daughters Cheryl Paulin and Kathryn Scarangello; sons William (Carolann) Scarangello and Allan (Debbie) Scarangello; his many loving grandchildren, Amanda (Sherif) Paulin-Bialy, Patricia (Brian) Strand, William (Courtney) Scarangello, Tyler Scarangello, Joseph (Mara Rose) Scarangello, Ian (Nicole) Scarangello and Robert Riley; his great-grandchildren Bryson, Isabella, Enzo, Nico, Brody, Jolene, Sierra, Kayden and Mackenzie; and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

He spent his life as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful and loving man. His life was well lived and he was well loved! This gentle, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by everyone who knew him.

Affectionately known as Pop, his family was the pivotal essence of his life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to our large family.

Pop will be forever remembered for his wonderful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven together again with the love of his life: Boken and the Fur Lady ride again.

A visitation for Pop is planned from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. All are invited to attend. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday Jan. 21 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery on Staten Island.

Our father always told us, “That is nice to be nice” and lived by those words. In lieu of flowers, it would warm our hearts that you do an unexpected act of kindness in his name.
