Alfred “Al” Anthony Bevacqua Jr., 87, of Middletown, died at home June 3, 2023. Born June 3, 1936, in Jersey City, he was raised in Keansburg. He resided in his home in Middletown for the past 58 years.

On July 6, 1963, Al married the love of his life, Marie Lawlor Bevacqua. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. In 1995, he retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of NY after 35 years and enjoyed the next 28 years as a member of the Jumping Brook Country Club.

Al graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in 1954 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Monmouth College in 1961. After college, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a staff sergeant in the 78th Division. In 1988, he received a graduate degree in banking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Al was a family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren more than anything in the world. During his life he loved to travel with his family, coach his children’s sporting events, and attend many of his grandchildren’s activities. After retirement, he and Marie set out on many adventures, traveling throughout the United States and various parts of the world.

He was very active in community affairs, as chairman of the Middletown Township Recreation Committee, with the Monmouth Catholic Bowling League, and the 1st Advisory Board at Jumping Brook Country Club; he also coached many softball and baseball teams for the MYAA.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie; daughter Jennifer Bevacqua-delaConcepcion of Fairfax Station, Virginia; two sons, Jeffrey (Christine) Bevacqua of Tinton Falls and Kevin Bevacqua of Middletown; three grandsons, Jaden delaConcepcion, and Jack and Justin Bevacqua; three granddaughters, Kayla and Kamlyn Bevacqua and Alexa delaConcepcion; two sisters, Rosemary Mazzeo of North Carolina and Marie Grosso of Florida; sister-in-law Myrna Bevacqua of Idaho; brother-in-law Martin (Patricia) Lawlor of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Antoinette Bevacqua; his in-laws, Martin and Rita Lawlor; his brother Anthony “Butch” Bevacqua; and brothers-in-law, Vincent Mazzeo and James Grosso.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 9 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. June 10 at St. Mary’s Chapel, Leonardville Road, Middletown. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
