HOLMDEL
The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation will host a screening from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, of the documentary feature film “Gold Star Children: Two Generations Sharing Loss and Healing,” followed by a conversation via Skype with producer and director Mitty Griffis Mirrer.
The event is open to the general public and will be held in the Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center’s testimonial theater, located at 1 Memorial Lane at Exit 116 of the Garden State Parkway, on the grounds of the PNC Bank Arts Center.
The one hour-long documentary film draws attention to military families and those impacted by war, but also inspires and helps non-military Americans understand, support and get involved with military families and the children left behind by our fallen warriors.
“Gold Star Children” takes an intimate look at American children who’ve lost a parent to war. The film is a first-person narrative told through the eyes of a nine-year-old girl, who lost her father in the Iraq war, and the adult-children survivors of the Vietnam War. The film follows the parallel journeys of two generations of grieving children – recent war orphans who’ve lost parents serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and here at home, with the now adult children who lost parents serving in Vietnam.
The screening is included in general museum admission which is $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students and free for children age 10 and younger, veterans and active military personnel.

LINCROFT
The public is invited to a viewing of the film “A Place at the Table” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 1475 W. Front St.
The event is co-sponsored by the Monmouth Center for World Religion and Ethical Thought and the Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County.
“A Place at the Table” is a 2012 documentary film, directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, concerning hunger in the United States. Featuring actor Jeff Bridges, the film shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for this country. It also suggests that the problem can be solved if the American public decides that making healthy food available and affordable is in everyone’s best interest.
A question-and-answer session will follow a viewing of the film, which lasts 84 minutes. The panel discussion, moderated by ClaraGee Stamaty Ziment, will include Barbara Scholz of the Monmouth-Ocean County Food Bank, Debbie Keszler of the Food Pantry of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation of West Long Branch and Gayle Topper of the Social Action Committee of Temple Beth Miriam.
There is no admission fee. In lieu of refreshments, attendees are asked to please bring a personal care item or nonperishable food item for distribution to those in need.
