ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council will feature author lecture series “Finding the Spiritual in the Musical,” featuring Raymond Perrier at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct.17 at the Paper Moon Puppet Theatre, 171 First Ave.
Perrier will discuss his wonder about what has happened to the historically close relationship between faith and the arts, and whether theater and music may find a way of reconciling the relationship going forward.
Perrier has headed the Jesuit Institute of South Africa as its lay director since January 2010, a position that fuels his passion for education and brings together management experience in international business and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), in developed and developing countries, and in delivery and consulting.
The institute is a think tank, research and advocacy effort dedicated to encouraging debate on current social issues and to stimulate critical reflection, research and dialogue.
Originally from the U.K., Perrier worked for 14 years for Interbrand, one of the world’s leading branding firms. He created and led the market-leading Brand Valuation practice, which pioneered the financial capitalization of brands for stock exchange, fiscal and financing purposes.
Subsequently, he was a trainee Jesuit priest for six years and, for two of those years, he lived and worked at Rhino Camp in Uganda as project director for the Jesuit Refugee Service, which was home to 60,000 Sudanese refugees.
Perrier holds an M.A. in philosophy and theology from New College Oxford, an M.A. in philosophy from Heythrop College of the University of London, and an MSc in human rights from the London School of Economics.
Tickets, which are limited, are $10 and available at the door or online at www.aharts.org.
The program is made possible in part by Monmouth Arts through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
