ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – The borough’s Shade Tree Commission is sponsoring a photo contest in celebration of Arbor Day.
The contest, “My Favorite Tree,” is open to all ages.
Entrants are encouraged to submit an original photo of their favorite Atlantic Highlands tree along with the street location to the Borough Hall, c/o Shade Tree Commission, or as a message on the Shade Tree Commission’s Facebook page by midnight, Monday, April 25.
They are also asked to include their name and a contact phone number or email address, along with a brief sentence or two as why the tree is their personal favorite.
The entrant’s photo and name will be placed on the commission Facebook page. A prize will be awarded to a randomly chosen winner.
Arbor Day is observed throughout the nation and the world.  In New Jersey, it is celebrated each year on the last Friday in April, this year April 29.
In Atlantic Highlands, the day is set aside for the planting of a special tree.  This year, the commission is partnering with the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School PTO to celebrate the planting of two trees to provide shade for the school playground.
The borough has been honored as a Tree City USA for 34 straight years.
