Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club: Change of Watch, Celebrates 70th Anniversary

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – New Year’s Day 2023 saw the 70th Change of Watch at the venerable Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club.

Outgoing Commodore Frank Allsman introduced and administered the oath of office to the new Commodore of the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club, Lou Melillo. This will be Melillo’s second time at the helm of the club. Also sworn in were Joe Patsco as Vice Commodore, and Jack Flannery as Rear Commodore.

In addition, three new board of governor members were sworn in; Jennifer Barrett, Bruce Cohen and Stephen Mackay will be joining incumbent board members Sue Mikitis, Chuck Parker and Barbara Nevius.

The Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club facilitates the Atlantic Highlands Sailing Education Program, or AHSEP, a 501c charity which teaches sailing skills to Bay Shore area youth ages 8 to 17. Students learn the basics of sailing, water safety and teamwork to develop an appreciation of sailing as a sport and a recreational pastime. To learn more about the program, visit ahsep.org.
