Audubon Society Plans Trip to Allendale Celery Farm

308

The Monmouth County Audubon Society will venture beyond the county’s borders when it sponsors a bird walk at the Allendale Celery Farm in Bergen County on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The Celery Farm Nature Preserve is a 107-acre freshwater wetland where more than 260 species of birds have been recorded, and 60 species are known to breed here. The group is hoping to discover the variety of ducks, raptors and passerines that visit each year, while searching for uncommon and elusive species such as Lincoln’s Sparrow and American Bittern.
Anyone interested in participating in the event can meet at 9 a.m. at the Green Way cul-de-sac.
The trip is open to both members and non-members of the Monmouth County Audubon Society. Participation is free. Advance registration is not required.
Participants should bring binoculars and field guides and should dress appropriately for the weather, including clothing suitable for rain if the forecast is questionable. The walk will take place light rain or shine. Pets are not permitted.
