CBA golf coach Tim Sewnig shared his thoughts on the Colts seniors who did not get to try to continue the program’s remarkable run as the top golf team in New Jersey.

As you know, we have won three Tournaments of Champions in a row and were really looking forward to this season. Those three were all won with Jack Wall and Brendan Hanson on the team (both players are now in Division I programs) and there was little opportunity for a lot of these players to make the CBA tournament team. This year was going to be their chance and a couple of them were no doubt banking on good seasons to improve their college options.

The challenge set for the 2020 CBA Golf team was going to be a matter of moving forward with a whole new team. We graduated five outstanding players, but these five seniors were ready to lend their talents and to continue our winning tradition. We have tri-captains this year, with each of them lending something unique to the team:

Finbar Bonner (captain), is a four-year player and key member of last year’s championship team. He finished with a 73 at Howell Golf Course in the 2019 Monmouth County Tournament, to finish third (behind two teammates). He averaged 1.88 over par in the dual-match season and his best round of 2019 was a 2-under-par 33 at Pebble Creek on May 8. He is a leader-by-actions and always has a good word for teammates and opponents alike.

Chris DiGiorgio (captain) is a leader that every teammate would love to be paired with. He keeps a cool head no matter what and that serenity is contagious. He is able to quickly forget a bad shot and get on with the next. His best round of 2019 was a 2-over-par 37 at our home course, Pebble Creek, on May 3.

Aidan McCague (captain) is, like Chris, a three-year member of the team. Aidan’s greatest strength is his tenacity. Never one to get down, Aidan keeps grinding through good and bad.  Quick with a smile, Aidan’s greatest contribution as captain is his team spirit. Aidan will do anything to benefit the progress of the team and every member thereof. Aidan’s best round of 2019 was an even-par 35 at Pebble Creek’s front nine on April 12.

Christian Lee made the team as a junior and was looking forward to showing his talents and contributing to the team effort in a big way his senior year. He is a dedicated athlete who will not be outworked. Christian averaged 2.7 strokes over par last season and his best round was an even-par 36 at Charleston Springs on April 11.

Ricky Calvy, like Christian, is a second-year player who was ready to step in and make his presence felt. Ricky had a great summer of preparation, playing numerous summer tournaments. He has a great attitude and his sense of humor can keep the whole team loose. He averaged 2.4 strokes over par last season, and he shot an even-par 35 at Pebble Creek on May 6.

Thomas Akiewicz was looking forward to this season having made the team as a senior. He played very well at tryouts and has great potential.
