Fourth of July Celebrations

The Monmouth County Historical Association is hosting the first of what will be an annual reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Allen House on Shrewsbury Avenue, Shrewsbury, on Saturday.
“(The reading is) very family-oriented,” said Mary Ann LaSardo, a member of the Historical Association’s Board of Trustees and whose own grandchildren will be at the event.
“I think that’s going to be one of the most important parts of this is to get children interested in the history of the United States and the history of Monmouth County,” she said.
The ceremony will kick off at 10 a.m. with church bells ringing to honor the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Audience members can then line up to read a paragraph from the Declaration. Lemonade and cookies, and tours of Shrewsbury’s historic Allen House will follow the reading.
