It’s not just the chance for some camaraderie, sportsmanship and hopefully sunshine that motivates duffers and novices to take to the greens. It’s also a chance to support their favorite charity.

With COVID-19 safety restrictions curtailing dinner dances, galas and other typical in-person fundraisers, the golf outing has proved to be even more essential to nonprofits, charities and other organizations that rely on much-needed donations to support their programs.

Awards, prizes, as well as raffles and 50/50s help raise additional funds, but the programs – and the people they help – are being impacted by the pandemic.

“By sponsoring Mulligans for Meals or by participating as a player, you are helping the Soul Kitchen support the increased numbers of those experiencing food insecurity cause by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Wayne Turner, JBJ Soul Kitchen volunteer and member of its golf outing committee, echoing the sentiments of many charitable organizations.

Whether it’s the increase in families in need of meals, programs put on hold or the unemployed unable to pay bills, nonprofit and charities need support. So, while indoor events are restricted, a day on the golf course can go a long way toward helping these organizations.
