Maureen D. Hintelmann of Red Bank passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2025, at Riverview Medical Center.
Maureen was raised in Sea Bright. She graduated from Sea Bright Grammar School and Red Bank Catholic High School (Class of 1959). She continued her education at Montclair State University, where she earned a teaching degree, and later at Monmouth University, where she earned a master’s degree in administration.
Maureen met the love of her life, Tom Hintelmann, while working a summer job at Sea Bright Beach Club. They married in 1965 and raised their family in Red Bank. She began her teaching career at Deane-Porter Elementary School in Rumson. When Maureen’s children were born, she took a break from teaching to be a full-time mother to Tom and Nancy. She returned to the classroom several years later at St. James Elementary School, where she taught for many years, eventually becoming their beloved principal. After a long career at St. James, she moved across the driveway to her alma mater, Red Bank Catholic. Maureen served as the director of admissions and worked closely with many students who were her “Casey Ambassadors.”
Maureen enjoyed painting, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was a parishioner at St. James Church, where she served on the parish council. It was Maureen’s strong faith that carried her through good times and bad.
Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and aunt. She loved her family and friends more than words can say. She had a personality full of life and love and had kind things to say about everyone she met. She was truly an angel.
Maureen was predeceased by Tom, her loving husband of 57 years; her parents, Capt. George and Ella Olsen Dougherty; and her beloved sister Patsy Kelly.
She is survived by her son Tom and his wife Mindy of Tinton Falls and her daughter Nancy Murphy and her husband Sean of Red Bank. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren, Sean, Matthew, Tommy, Michael, Kaitlin and Katherine, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Jan. 15 at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 16 at St. James Church, Red Bank. Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Red Bank Catholic High School, 112 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701 or redbankcatholic.org/ways-to-give.
