Navesink Garden Club to Hold Flower Show

273

RED BANK – The Navesink Garden Club is staging a small standard flower show, titled Moments in Time, from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at The Atrium, 40 Riverside Ave.
The meeting and flower show is open to the general public free of charge.
The club has held a horticulture show every year since its inception in 1947. Members enter and display the best examples of the fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers grown in their gardens over the summer. It has been a colorful and abundant exhibit in the past and promises to be an exciting one this year with the addition of the designs.
With titles like Follow the Sun, A Day in the Garden, Herbal Delights, Green Thumbs and A Country Garden in the horticulture division (eligible for Best-in-Show Award) and Razzle Dazzle, Graceful Rhythm, Jazz it Up and Some Like it Hot in the design division, (also eligible for a Best-in-Show Award), a bountiful and colorful show is assured. Members have garnered blue ribbons in local and state competitions.
Twenty-one members of the club will display their Meyer lemon tree in a challenge class. The plants were distributed in March 2014 as a fledgling 12-inch tall specimen. It will be interesting to see how tall they have grown and how many lemons are on the branches.
Entries are accepted from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.; judging begins at 10:30 a.m.
The Navesink Garden Club invites people interested in horticulture and design to join the club. Meetings are held 11 a.m. to noon, the third Tuesday of the month at The Atrium. The club is a member of The Garden Club of New Jersey, Inc. and the Central Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc. Members come from nearby towns and as far as New York City, Florida and Mississippi.
